Automatic Import of CSV Files to Telemet Ticker Lists

Telemet Orion can use properly formatted CSV files as ticker lists. The file will need to be copied into the .../Telemet/CSV_TO_LISTS folder OR to the folder specified within the Central Location – CSV to Lists field in the Tools, Defaults, File Loc dialog.   it will automatically create a ticker list within Telemet Orion. The resulting List file will have the same name that the CSV file has and will have the same functionality as any other Telemet List file, including the ability to use Group Headings.

Setting up Orion to automatically Import CSV files:
1) From any Orion window choose Tools>Defaults and then click on the File Loc tab.
2) Click on the ‘…’ button to the right of the CSV to Lists field and browse to the folder you will store the CSV files in, then choose OK.
3) You may create the CSV file(s) in the specified folder or copy them there to have Telemet Orion automatically import them.

NOTE: The original CSV file will need to be closed in order for the List to be added to Orion or to see any changes made to it.

Details on the formatting of an Orion List compatible CSV file:
1)       The file name can be any acceptable name but must have a .csv extension. The resulting Ticker List will have the same name that the CSV file has.
2)       The column separator in the file’s text strings may be any one of the following: comma, one single space, tab, or semicolon.
3)       The first line of the CSV file must be the header.
4)       The name of a column in the header may be anything, but only columns with specific names will map to Telemet Columns.
5)       The column order is not important.
6)       Telemet Columns are Symbol, Type, Exchange, Basis, Shares, Date, Commission, Document, and Note.
7)      The specific column header formats that can be used are:

·        Symbol – ‘Symbol’, ‘SYMBOL’, ‘symbol’, ‘Issue’, ‘ISSUE’, ‘issue’, ‘Ticker’, ‘TICKER’, ‘ticker’, ‘Name’, ‘NAME’, ‘name’
·         Type – ‘Type’, ‘TYPE’, ‘type’
·         Exchange – ‘Exchange’, ‘EXCHANGE’, ‘exchange’
·         Basis – ‘Cost’, ‘COST’, ‘cost’, ‘Basis’, ‘BASIS’, ‘basis’, ‘Value’, ‘VALUE’, ‘value’
·         Shares – ‘Shares’, ‘SHARES’, ‘shares’
·         Date – ‘Date’, ‘DATE’, ‘date’.
·         Commission – ‘Commission’, ‘COMMISSION’, ‘commission’
·         Document - ‘Document’, ‘DOCUMENT’, ‘document’ (Please note that documents must be entered in the form of a file name. Example: test.doc)
·         Note - ‘Note’, ‘NOTE’, ‘note’
8)       Group Headings can be created within the CSV file by entering a line beginning with ‘##’.  For example: ##Focus Stocks   (This would create a group within the Orion List with the name ‘Focus Stocks’).

9)       If a list contains different Types of tickers (for example Stocks and Indices) you must include a Type column and it must be populated for every ticker with the abbreviation of the appropriate type of ticker. Ticker type abbreviations are:

·         S = Stock
·         I  = Index
·         B = Bond
·         F = Future
·         O = Option
